Flow Cytometry/ Immunophenotyping Laboratory

Laboratory overview

The immunophenotyping suites at the Guy’s & St Thomas’ sites provide a comprehensive flow cytometry service offering a variety of clinical diagnostics services to both NHS, private and research clients. Blood sciences is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory (No.8710), accredited to ISO15189:2012 for the tests listed in the schedule of accreditation on the UKAS website (https://www.ukas.com/wp-content/uploads/schedule_uploads/00007/8710-Medical-Multiple.pdf). Any tests not currently accredited are noted as such in the test details on this website.

Highly skilled scientists offer services for leukaemia and lymphoma diagnosis using multi colour antibody instruments and panels in conjunction with analysis software to deliver rapid and accurate results, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate integrated reporting.

The suite also offers other flow cytometric based assays including high throughput immune monitoring, a range of platelet assays and drug monitoring. The laboratory has an interest in the development of new diagnostic assays and collaborates with research partners to translate successful research into clinical practice.

Key features:

  • Diagnosis and classification of suspected haematological malignancy
  • Specialised fine needle aspirate service
  • Platelet assays including glycoprotein, immuno platelet counting and micropartical analysis, platelet-leukocyte aggregates, platelet activation and function studies
  • Immune monitoring
  • Urgent cases are reported within 24 hours
