Clinical Transplantation Department

Established over 40 years ago, and as one of the busiest transplant laboratories in the UK, the Clinical Transplantation Laboratory supports a variety of Solid Organ (Renal, Pancreas, Liver, Small Bowel/Multivisceral, Islet and Cardiothoracic) and Stem cell transplant programs across the South East of England. Alongside this we provide a comprehensive companion HLA typing service for disease association and pharmacogenomics. We are also involved in supporting a variety of research projects.

The laboratory is based at Guys Hospital and is open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Out of hours, weekends and bank holidays, the laboratory operates an on-call system for emergency work.

The Department takes part in National and International quality control exercises and is fully accredited by by UKAS to the ISO15189:2012 Standard, Medical Laboratory number 9568 since 2018, and the European Federation of Immunogenetics since 2008.
